Argentina, 1980. A military dictatorship is consolidating its grip on the country through terror, intimidation and forced disappearances. Private banker Yvan (Fabrizio Rongione) arrives from Geneva with his wife Ines (Stéphanie Cléau) to replace a colleague who has mysteriously disappeared. Moving through the smoke-filled lounges and lush gardens of the elite, Yvan must tread a careful path as he untangles a sinister web of colonialism and high finance.
Fabrizio Rongione excels as the elusive Yvan, a man who cannot afford to give too much away, as he negotiates with a mendacious, amoral class, devoted to greed. In a remarkably assured debut, Swiss director Andreas Fontana leads us through a seductive, moneyed world where political violence simmers just under the surface.

★★★★★ “Pure evil is all around in this unnervingly subtle, sophisticated movie; an eerie oppression in the air.”
