5th and 6th class pupils of Christ Church National School have been invited to have their say about the artworks and artefacts on display in Garter Lane Arts Centre and Waterford Treasures as part of a 'Takeover Day' on Saturday 18th of November.
Takeover Day is an initiative by Kids in Museums, a UK-based independent charity, which encourages children and young people to engage with museums, galleries and arts venues by inviting them to 'take over' different roles involved in the running of culture and heritage venues. Over 5000 children and young people took part in Takeover Days across the UK in 2016. Last year, Garter Lane Arts Centre and Galway City Museum were the first Irish venues to participate. Following the success of its first year, Garter Lane Arts Centre is now teaming up with Waterford Treasures to expand 'Takeover Day' in Waterford.
In preparation for their Takeover Day, 5th & 6th class pupils of Christ Church National School will host Garter Lane Arts Centre staff in their classroom for history and art appreciation workshops. The pupils will then visit Bishop's Palace and Garter Lane Arts Centre's current exhibitions where they will be invited to have their say on the artworks and artefacts on display by writing their own visitor guides.
Visitors are invited to enjoy their written guides to their chosen artworks and artefacts in the Bishop's Palace and Garter Lane Arts Centre on Takeover Day, Saturday 18th of November.
