Zarafa (PG)

To celebrate Africa Day, Garter Lane Arts Centre and Waterford One World Centre will screen Zafara, a gorgeous French animation (from writer-director Rémi Bezancon) about the story of Maki, a young boy who escapes from slave traders to go on an epic voyage from Africa to France - befriending a giraffe, crossing the desert and meeting a pirate on his way. Under a baobab tree, an old man tells of the everlasting friendship between Maki and Zarafa, the orphaned giraffe who was a gift from Pasha of Egypt to the King of France. During their long journey from Sudan to Paris - travelling through Alexandria, Marseille and across the snowy Alps - they will live a thousand adventures. A charming and very touching animated adventure that will appeal to young explorers everywhere.

All bookings will be coordinated by Waterford One World Centre. Africa Day, designated by the African Union as an annual celebration of the continent's unity, falls on 25th May each year, with celebrations across the globe.
