Opening Fri 7 Feb at 6.30pm tenmileradius by John O'Regan'tenmileradius' is a series of new landscapes by Waterford born artist John O'Regan painted as the name suggests within a 10 mile radius of his home in Maree Oranmore Galway.John explains his art - "I paint. That's what I do. I don't write about it because that constitutes a different form of expression. Neither do I feel obliged to write about it or see the need for it. In fact I have great respect for the worthy citizen who says: 'I may not know too much about art but I knows what I likes', and even though he or she may not be 'visually educated' he can discern good painting when he sees it. The fallacy that art needs to be explained is begun in arts schools and perpetuated thereafter by self appointed arbiters of 'good taste' in the form of critics and reviewers. What they fail to allow is that the best work is in fact quite simple and delivers its message straight to the senses without the need for arbitration. |
